It’s no secret that omakase sushi restaurants can cost you a pretty penny, but this spot is taking it a whole new level.
According to a new study, one ultra-luxe sushi counter near Central Park is officially the most expensive restaurant in the entire state of New York—offering a tasting menu so exclusive, it’ll set you back nearly a grand per person.
The title goes to none other than Masa, a revered Michelin 3-star sushi restaurant located amongst The Shops at Columbus Circle, according to a new list by Love Food.

Here’s what Love Food had to say about the prestigious restaurant:
“New York City is home to some of the world’s most expensive restaurants, including Masa, a dizzyingly brilliant Japanese restaurant with equally dizzying prices. This storied spot offers a 26-course omakase menu for an astonishing $750 per person – or, if you really want to splash the cash, a seat at the sushi counter costs $950. Masa takes its food so seriously that guests are asked to limit the amount of fragrance they wear, so as not to interfere with the experience of other diners.”
Sushi so fancy there’s both $750 & $950 options
At Masa, diners can choose between two exclusive experiences:
- Omakase Table Experience ($750 per person):
Seated in Masa’s serene dining room, guests are treated to an intimate, multi-course tasting curated by Chef Masa. The menu is seasonal, refined, and completely driven by the day’s freshest fish and ingredients—many of which are flown in directly from Japan. - Hinoki Counter Experience ($950 per person):
This is the ultimate version of the Masa experience—seating you directly at the handcrafted Hinoki wood sushi counter, face-to-face with one of Masa’s highly trained sushi chefs. The two-hour experience is deeply personal and meditative, designed to highlight technique, temperature, and texture at every bite.
And yes—no tax, tip, or beverages included.

So what do you actually eat?
There’s no printed menu at Masa, which makes even more bizarre yet fascinating. Each day’s omakase (hand selected by Masayoshi Takayama) is completely dependent on the day’s ingredients and the chef’s intuition. Think:
- Silky otoro (fatty tuna belly) lightly brushed with aged soy
- Uni (sea urchin) flown in from Hokkaido
- Live scallops sliced to order
- A5 wagyu, sushi-style
- Delicate finishes like kelp-marinated fluke, black truffle shavings, or caviar-topped toro handrolls

A few house rules before you go…
- Corkage fee is $300 per bottle (limit two), and bottles must not already appear on Masa’s wine list
- No photos are allowed during the meal
- Dress code is casual and comfortable—no jacket required
- The experience takes about two hours, especially for the Hinoki Counter
- And yes—you’ll need to book far in advance
