What is the Primary Election?
According to the New York Board of Elections, “Primary Elections are held so that voters registered with a qualified political party may select their party’s nominees to the general election for partisan offices. Because a primary is a party election, only voters registered with one of the parties qualified to conduct a primary in New York City may vote in their party’s primary.”

- Accessible ballot requests are available online and due on June 14th.
Ranked voting: an explainer
With Ranked Voting, New Yorkers can rank up to five candidates in their order of preference instead of choosing just one candidate. This process is only available during the primary election and special elections.
Per NYC Votes, you can choose to vote for only one top choice if you’d like, but ranking other options does not harm your 1st choice and gives you more of a say in the final outcome.
Once the June Primary wraps up, mark your calendars for the General Election on November 4th, 2025.
