It’s no secret that NYC is one of the most influential places in the world — especially when it comes to fashion and style. People all over the world travel here for shopping and people-watching.
New York City is one of the four fashion capitals of the world, so it is no surprise that we’d be at the top of any list regarding fashion!
And, of course, fashion is about way more than clothing… we have to account for accessories, bags, and of course, jewelry!
In a city that never sleeps, it’s super easy to find some bling whether you fancy fashion, fine, costume, or semi-fine jewelry. You’ll rarely spot a New Yorker without staple pieces that suit their personal style.
With that being said, it should come as no surprise that according to a study by Liberty London, New York has been ranked the most jewelry-obsessed city and state in America!
To collate the findings, LibertyLondon.com began by establishing a list of keywords based on metals, gemstones, and jewelry styles. They then examined search data from Google across US states, counting the times these terms were searched in each state.
The team defined ‘luxury’ as precious metals and gemstones, i.e., gold, platinum, diamond, emerald, sapphire, and ruby. They calculated a luxury score based on the average score of these materials, enabling them to differentiate between searches for items like ‘rings’ and ‘luxury rings.’
And in case you were curious to know what New York’s favorite jewelry piece is — don’t worry; it’s a classic!
Research shows that the perfect gift for a New Yorker is a diamond and silver tennis bracelet. Overall, New York was the state that prized precious metals most highly, followed by California and Wyoming.
Outside New York, the country is more evenly split on its favorite jewelry items. Chains are the most popular type of jewelry in Hawaii, while California prefers timeless luxury necklaces.
When we looked at the range of jewelry types across the US, it was clear that New York is the most jewelry-obsessed state in the country, with California and Texas close behind.
New York topped our lists across several categories of jewelry, as the biggest lovers of bracelets, earrings, and rings. Massachusetts scored second in rings, with California taking second place for bracelets and earrings.
