New data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics released the average domestic airline itinerary fares by origin city for Q1 2023, and the cost of airfare at NYC airports has seen quite the increase.
Only one NYC airport is below the national average domestic fare, and that was LaGuardia Airport. The national average domestic fare is $381.51. LGA’s average domestic fare is $325.76. However, Newark’s average fare is $400.49 and JFK’s is the most expensive out of the three at $424.33.
In 2022, JFK’s average fare was $349.85, Newark’s was $331.40 and LGA’s was $272.13. Both JFK and Newark jumped a whopping 21% in flight costs over the year. Meanwhile, LGA fare went up by 20% from last year.
The most expensive average domestic fare for Q1 2023 was out of Alaska’s Cold Bay Airport. Flights from Cold Bay cost an average $1,853. In contrast, the cheapest average domestic fare was from San Bernardino, California for $92.17.
