New Year’s Eve and New York City are a match made in holiday heaven, and you can take a sneak peek of what’s to come before December 31st rolls around.
New Yorker or not, it’s tradition to watch the ball drop, but did you ever think about getting up close to the New Year’s Eve numerals? In between the holiday events and shopping you’re planning this weekend, you have your chance.
From December 18th to December 23rd at 7am, those walking by in Times Square can snap a pic with the 7-foot-tall “2025” before it’s placed atop of One Times Square ahead of NYC’s iconic New Year’s Eve celebration. We’d say that’s a pretty sweet selfie. (The arrival and unveiling will take place on the 18th at 11am.)
According to the Times Square Alliance, the four numerals use a total of 620 energy efficient LED bulbs; the numeral “2” contains 145 bulbs, the “0” contains 164 bulbs, and the “5” contains 166 bulbs.
While there are plenty of New Year’s Eve dinners and parties to look forward to, wouldn’t it be cool to say that you got to experience the tradition from a unique, personal vantage point? We’ll cheers to that and a Happy New Year!
