As the city takes on more initiatives to create green space throughout the five boroughs, more tax payer dollars are being invested into small neighborhood parks. Chelsea Green is one of those parks currently in the works.
Formerly West 20th Street Park, Chelsea Green is currently a city-owned lot (pictured below). Based on the current plan this new park will be a source of much-needed green space for Chelsea. Thanks to $1 million in allocated funding from Council Member Corey Johnson, $4.3 million from the office of Mayor de Blasio, and long-standing community support from Friends of 20th Street Park and many community members, this capital project will reconstruct the currently unused site and turn it into a park. It is located on 20th street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The project is set to begin construction in April of this year and will take between one year and eighteen months to complete.
