Throwing axes while you get drunk sounds a bit hazardous, but that’s not stopping this range from making it happen.
For those new to axe throwing, there’s nothing to fear. Kick Axe will put you with an “axpert” when you arrive at the range to teach you the basics. Then, once you begin competing with your friends, the “axpert” will be there to help you and keep score. Kick Axe is decorated to look like a lodge, but you won’t have to wear plaid to be allowed in. The only requirements are that you come in closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothes.

So how is the game itself played? Well, as their site says, “think darts…but with hatchets!”

The space features a bar with a fireplace (winter hangout perhaps?) as well as 10 ranges with 20 targets. If you get bored between throws, Kick Axe also provides boardgames for guests to use.
For food, there is currently a STUF’d food truck outside the venue that guests can order from.
Kick Axe can accommodate up to 120 axe throwers at a time. For big groups that want to secure a private range in advance it costs $35 per person for an hour and fifteen minutes. Walk-ins can experience one hour of axe throwing for $28 per person.
It’s located at 622 Degraw Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
