While the last couple of weeks have been a scorcher, with a dangerous heat wave that hit not too long ago, there’s now another heat advisory to watch out for today.
Depending on what weather app you use, today’s high didn’t seem like it’d break the 90-degree threshold. At first that didn’t seem too bad, but the danger is in the humidity levels. If you’ve been outside today you likely noticed how stifling it is out, and that’s because of the heat index values.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a heat advisory in effect until 9 p.m. tonight with heat index values reaching around 95 today. As the weather outlook shares, “a Heat Advisory is issues when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.” The heat advisory is expected to last through Monday.
Along with the heat advisory, there is also an Air Quality Alert out until 11 p.m., and Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Manhattan, Kings County, Richmond County, Southeastern Essex County, Northeastern Union County and Hudson County.
