We’re only about seven weeks away from the NYC mayoral election, and with the voter registration deadline approaching on Saturday, October 25, 2025, it’s important to register to vote as soon as possible if you haven’t already.
Luckily, today marks National Voter Registration Day, serving as a reminder to do just that, while offering tons of resources and help along the way.

When is National Voter Registration Day 2025?
This year, National Voter Registration falls on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025.
What is National Voter Registration Day?
National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is a nonpartisan civic holiday that celebrates democracy by increasing awareness of the importance of participating in elections and helping people register to vote.
What happens on National Voter Registration Day?
Because National Voter Registration Day is organized by thousands of nonprofit organizations, election officials, libraries, schools, and community partners across the country, there’s a nationwide push to get people registered through local events, online campaigns, tabling, and more.
This collective effort ensures that as many eligible voters as possible can participate in the over 100,000 state and local elections across the nation this year.

Why is registering to vote important?
Millions of people across the country don’t participate in elections because they missed the deadline to register to vote or don’t update their registration after moving. National Voter Registration Day intends to combat that problem and remind everyone to register.
“Getting registered to vote is just the FIRST step in getting #VoteReady! Making a plan to vote, knowing what’s on the ballot, or providing time off for your employees so they can vote are all part of what comes next to ensure everyone has their voice heard at the ballot box,” writes the official National Voter Registration Day website.
How do I know if I’m registered to vote?
