Commuters who take the 4, 5, 6 will be displeased to know that track replacement work will suspend service south of Grand Central-42 St on the upcoming weekends of August 15th-18th and August 22nd-25th.
Track replacement work includes renewing the infrastructure and replacing the concrete under switches north of 14th Street to protect against leaks and corrosion, and to support the MTA’s commitment to maintaining the subway system’s functionality and structural stability.
Simultaneously, the MTA will take advantage of the 4, 5, 6 suspensions to make additional improvements along the Lexington line, from accessibility projects, communications upgrades, under-river tunnel repairs, and more.
Service suspension
The service suspensions will commence on Friday at 11:30am and last through 5am Monday, for both weekends.

4 trains
During those hours, 4 trains will not service riders between Grand Central-42 St and Crown Hts-Utica Av or New Lots Av. However, 4 trains will run local between Woodlawn and Grand Central-42 St.
5 trains
Moreover, 5 trains won’t run between E. 180 St and Bowling Green, but will service north of E 180 St to and from Eastchester-Dyre Av.
6 trains
Lastly, 6 trains will not transport passengers from Grand Central-42 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. Yet, 6 trains will run local from Pelham Bay Park and Grand Central-42 St.

Alternate Service
Manhattan
Special weekend W service will run between 7am to 7pm Saturday and 10am to 6pm Sunday to make up for the outage, marking the first time in nearly five months that the W has operated on the weekend. Furthermore, the S 42 St Shuttle will run all weekend and overnight hours.
To get between Grand Central-42 St to Bowling Green, riders will have to rely on a nearby N, Q, R, W, 2, 3 train. Transfer between 4, 6 trains and N, R, W trains at Lexington Av-59th St. Transfer between Grand Central-42 St 4,6 trains and Times Sq-42 St Q, R, W, 2, 3 trains using the 7 or S 42 St Shuttle.

Brooklyn
The MTA advises riders in Brooklyn to take the 2, 3 trains for service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College. Otherwise, they can take the 3 train for service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av. Although they usually don’t, 3 trains will operate to and from New Lots Av. overnight and all weekend long.
