MTA looks into possible new subway line

The next and last stop is… Marine Park? It could be! The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has set aside $5 million to study the feasibility of a new track between Crown Heights and Marine Park

The state Department of Transportation is asking the federal government for between $4.6 and $7.5 million so the MTA can extend the 2 and 5 trains from Eastern Parkway to Avenue U along Utica Avenue.

The larger question is whether the study may just be a complete waste of time taking into account that the MTA likely wouldn’t be able to afford to build the extension. Also the proposed tracks would retread the recently launched B46 Select Bus Service.

Uncle Sam will rule on the plan by Oct. 1, so until then we’ll have to be patient.
