MSCHF is known for putting on some of the wackiest drops, from their recent “Ketchup or Makeup” challenge to their “Eat the Rich” ice cream truck. However, their craziest one yet has to be “Keys4all,” and you can still participate!
Three days ago, MSCHF posted to their Instagram that a communal car had been dropped off at a mystery location in NYC. People can purchase one of the many keys to the shared car in hopes of locating it. If found, it’s yours to drive. “Buy a key. Find the car. Drive the car,” simple as that.
Get exclusive tips on the car’s whereabouts by calling MSCHF’s hotline at +1 833-457-2771. When you’re close to the communal car, your key will inform you by lighting up. Once it has been located, you can push the key fob to unlock the car. From there, it’s yours forever…or until another key holder finds it. That’s right, this is some Grand Theft Auto meets high stakes scavenger hunt stuff!
“The car is transient and un-ownable, a journey and temporary blessing. It is a contest without the security of victory. If you find the car, it is yours. But if you want to enjoy the fruits of your victory and drive, then you must accept the risk of taking the car out in the world–that another driver-errant may snatch the vehicle out from under you,” further explains MSCHF. “Key4All is the shift from Universal Basic Car to Public Universal Car.”
Think of it like ZipCar if ZipCar only had one vehicle in their fleet. The shared car’s kind is a secret to all those but key holders, however, rumors say it’s a PT Cruiser.
Keys4All will go on forever, or until “the car is destroyed or impounded,” said MSCHF online. Learn more about the competition here.
