Vacation rental site Casago analyzed TripAdvisor reviews to find the most peaceful attractions in every U.S. state and the twenty biggest U.S. cities, and though it may not seem like it at first glance, there are quite a few quiet reprieves to escape to in the city that never sleeps.
According to the data if you’re a tourist looking to explore NYC sans the crowds, heading to Roosevelt Island is your best bet. In fact, 125 per every 1,000 TripAdvisor reviews of the island mention the word “peaceful.”
Casago writes:
This hidden gem offers a serene sanctuary with breathtaking views of the iconic New York City skyline and the flowing waters of the East River. As you explore, you can leisurely stroll along the riverfront promenade.
In addition to Roosevelt Island, the study named nine runner up peaceful NYC spots, which include:
- Green-Wood Cemetery
- Strawberry Fields, John Lennon Memorial
- World Trade Center’s Liberty Park
- The Met Cloisters
- St. Joseph’s Chapel Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero
- Trinity Church
- Brooklyn Botanic Garden
- St. Thomas Church
- St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Of Central Park’s Strawberry Fields Casago writes:
Strawberry Fields, a five-acre landscape within Central Park with the Imagine mosaic at its heart, was designed as a memorial to John Lennon of The Beatles. And it is situated where Lennon himself and his artist wife Yoko Ono would stroll peacefully in the years before his death. “The atmosphere on this site is magical,” writes a Beatles fan. “I loved the serenity and peace felt.”
Let the records show that we didn’t expect NYC to be home to the most peaceful tourist spots in the world, so having ten of our own places to escape the craziness of the city is, in our eyes, a pretty big feat.
As for the most peaceful tourist spots in America, Florida is home to two of them, with the number one spot going to The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine.
