The season has only just begun, but the Yankees are already making history.
On Saturday, March 29th, the Bronx Bombers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 20-9 — Aaron Judge leading the way by going 4-for-6 with three homers and bringing in eight runs — and they reached the most home runs in a game in the team’s entire history. Talk about an amazing way to kick of 2025!
Needless to say, fans left the Bronx on a high celebrating the monumental occasion: “Never saw the stadium shake like that. Our ears will be ringing for days,” one Instagram user commented. Another said, “PLAY THAT SINATRA”! (FYI, the team decided to drop Sinatra’s “New York, New York” after losses.)
While the majority of New Yorkers are kicking their heels, there are some questioning the New York Yankees bats. A newly reconstructed bat — which naysayers seem to think are illegal in the MLB — is a torpedo style that aims to decrease misses and increase barreled balls. Per CBS News, the team moved the barrel of the closer to the label, a.k.a. where players make the most contact.
“The Yankees front office’s analytics department did a study on (Volpe),” YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay said, according to USA Today. “Every single ball it seemed like he hit on the label, he didn’t hit any on the barrel, so they had bats made up where they moved a lot of the wood into the label so that the harder part of the bat is going to strike the ball.”
Similarly, the Yankees’ new outfielder, Cody Bellinger, told the New York Daily News: “There’s ways to move the weight of the bat. Some guys like top heavy, some guys like hand-loaded bats. You just gotta find a bat that feels good, that kind of moves with you.”
Will the Yanks continue to smash records as the season continues? New Yorkers are sure hoping.
