Milk Bar is the sweet creation of award-winning pastry chef Christina Tosi, who opened the very first shop in the East Village back in 2008. Over ten years later, the bakery can be found in D.C, Toronto, Las Vegas and LA.
Labelled as “one of the most exciting bakeries in the country” by Bon Appétit magazine, Milk’s success is largely attributed to the cult following that its gathered over the years. Their most popular desserts include the Crack Pie, Compost Cookie, Cereal Milk Soft Serve and most notably, the famous “naked” layer funfetti cake (naked due to its unfrosted sides). If you haven’t tried one of their delicious treats, we recommend you put it at the top of your foodie bucket list.
For the ultimate sweet tooths, Milk fans and baking enthusiasts out there, you can participate in cooking classes to learn the process, techniques and secrets behind how the yummy cakes are made! With a total of 11 different classes, the options are endless as the chefs teach you everything from the assembly of layer cakes, re-purposing of cake scraps into tiny cake truffle and much more. The classes all cost $95, with the exception of the $125 designing your own milk bar cake package which allows for maximum creativity as you design your signature Milk cake… think you can give the experts a run for their money? Of course, the best part of baking is eating, so at the end of every class all participants can take home whatever they made (plus, a few recipes)! All ages are welcome to join, whether you’re a seasoned baker or a newbie.
Next time you’re craving a Milk treat you won’t have to suffer through long, as you’ll have all the baking skills necessary to whip something up at home!
