New Yorkers will have to wait at least another year for this “Thriller.”
The Michael Jackson musical, titled “MJ,” was originally supposed to hit Broadway theaters this July. Since Broadway has shuttered until at least September, it will now be opening in April of 2021.
Producers announced the news earlier this month, saying that previews of the new musical will begin Monday, March 8, 2021, at the famous Neil Simon Theatre on 52nd St. The world premiere opening night is set for April 15.

You can purchase tickets in advance for the new dates online here, and if you had already purchased tickets for this summer, you should see them refunded on your billing statements.
The musical does not focus on Jackson’s personal life but rather on his music and “creative process,” following the famous singer and his collaborators as they rehearse for the 1992 Dangerous Tour. It features 25 of his songs, according to their website, and allows audiences to “rediscover the man in the mirror” through “an explosion of music and theatricality as unforgettable as the artist himself.”
