Fashion’s biggest night arrives tonight (May 5) as The Met Gala kicks off on the Upper East Side later this evening.
A star-studded list of celebrities will be strutting up the famous staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the museum’s annual charity fundraiser.
This year’s gala is in tandem with The Met’s new 2025 exhibition called “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The exhibit this year “explores the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora” and is inspired by Guest Curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
That very book “chronicles the ways in which Black people have used dress and fashion to transform their identities and imagine new ways of embodying political and social possibilities.”
Meanwhile this year’s coinciding theme and dress code is “Tailored For You” which invites the attending celebrities to take creative liberties when curating a look inspired by menswear and suiting.
But who’s all going to the star-studded event?
Well, we know for sure who the co-chairs are…otherwise known as a group of individuals providing input on the benefit’s dress code, dinner, and performances.
This year’s co-chairs include Sing Sing actor Colman Domingo, British race car driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, music producer Pharrell Williams and Vogue icon Anna Wintour. NBA player LeBron James will also be an honorary chair, but will not attend the Met Gala due to his sports injury.
