Seaport isn’t just getting GITANO’s first permanent space, but Meow Wolf’s seventh permanent exhibition soon! The entertainment and arts company putting on “mind-bending immersive experiences” will open an NYC location soon.
Meow Wolf started in Santa Fe in 2008. Before it became world-renowned, it originated as an art collective that utilized discarded materials to transform into immersive spaces. More specifically, “they are interactive universes filled with layers of narrative, where every visitor becomes part of the story.” For those still confused what Meow Wolf is, I’ll try to explain it as best as I can from my personal experience.
I visited the Meow Wolf in Las Vegas last January, and from the images online, I knew I had to come somewhat under the influence (luckily Las Vegas, similar to NYC has dispensaries). We started in a mock supermarket (known as Mega Mart), pulling back cereal boxes and crawling through the janitor’s closet in search of a doorway to a new room or realm.
Once you find an entryway, you’ll discover a whole new colorful wonderland that awaits. Every room leads to another and creates a massive interactive experience. Plus, if you search enough you’ll find a hidden bar somewhere within the exhibition to grab a cocktail.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend the experience, and can only imagine New York’s exhibition will be even wilder. And with promises for the exhibition to be “distinctly New York” I can’t wait to see how it turns up.
CEO of Meow Wolf, Jose Tolosa, said:
The energy of New York City is unlike anywhere else, and it’s the perfect place for Meow Wolf…This city has given the world so much groundbreaking art and culture, and as a New Yorker myself, where my family and I proudly call home, I’m incredibly proud that we’re bringing something truly unique to this historic and ever-evolving creative hub.
Meow Wolf already has permanent exhibitions in cities including Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, Houston and Santa Fe. You can learn more on its website.
