A new legislation was recently passed that is bringing changing tables for babies to all public NYC restrooms—which includes the men’s room.
Apparently, there are many women’s bathrooms in the city that don’t have changing tables as well. Now, NYC will be the first major city in the country to have legislation requiring all new developers to include a baby changing station in all bathrooms. This includes coffee shops, restaurants, theaters, and even nightclubs.
According to Huffington Post, it all came about after Rafael Espinal, a New York City Council member, witnessed a man changing his baby’s diaper in a bathroom sink. “It was terrible to see a father changing his child’s diaper on top of a public sink where hundreds of people wash their hands after using the restroom.” He continued, “Parents should be changing their children’s diapers with a little more dignity, in a space that’s sanitary.”
The legislation was approved on Monday.
