Anchored below Essex Crossing, The Market Line has officially opened to the public as of Friday, November 22!
Today, the first section of the 15,000 square foot Market Line has opened with 30 local vendors. The space is connected to the historic Essex Street Market—which relocated from it’s original corner of the LES earlier this year. The Essex Market functions as the “Grocery” are for locals and is home to the historic market’s 21 longtime vendors in addition to more than a dozen new vendors and restaurants.
As for The Market Line that spans the length of three buildings from below, once completed it will host about 140 vendors and restaurants! But for now the open section offers enough vendors to keep us busy until the 2021 completion with stalls for Nom Wah, Veselka, Pickle Guys, Kuro Obi, Cafe Grumpy, and the Doughnut Plant among others. The space also includes full-service restaurants and bars like a new places called Peoples which was created by the masterminds behind Contra and Wildair that sells natural wines and includes a bar; a 48-seater restaurant and raw bar called Essex Pearl; a 200-seater. beer hall called Grand Delancey that offers 50 craft beers on tap; old-school German butcher shop Schaller & Weber; a sake bar and Izakaya by the people behind Davelle (which will be opening slightly later than the rest); pizza haven Slice Joint; and Tortilleria Nixtamal that’ll be whipping up fresh tortillas on the spot!
