After five years of hearing about Tetsu‘s NYC debut, chef Masa Takayama has at last opened it.
Located in Tribeca at 78 Leonard Street, the new restaurant is more casual than anything you’d find at the chef’s three-Michelin-starred Masa, serving Japanese robatayaki (open-fire) cuisine.
The menu is broken down into several categories by method of cooking. There’s raw, sizzling, robata grill, and fried. Also on the menu are stews, surimi pasta, rice and noodle dishes, and of course sushi. The restaurant’s dishes are intended to be shared and are served family style.
The most notable item on the menu that we’re intrigued to try is “Chef Masa’s first-ever burger”—your choice of beef or lamb with Taleggio cheese on a pretzel bun. Which are served daily but only for the short window of time from 5pm to 6pm.
