Anyone who’s lived in NYC knows just how many experiences and quirks are unique to this city…subway rats included. And while the list of clichés about its ‘one-of-a-kind’ spirit goes on and on, the majority of them are true!
Where else can you bond with jaded strangers over the struggles of your daily commute? Or can we also talk about how bodega cats are essentially their own species of cat, sacred to all New Yorkers?
Between wholesome city adventures to that go-to pizza place you can’t get enough of, Maker’s Mark® Bourbon invites you to raise a #ToastToNYC in celebration of your favorite ‘just NYC things’ – the things that make the city we’re proud to call home unlike anywhere else.
Keep reading to see how many of these ‘just NYC things’ you can relate to, and be sure to check out the full gallery here!
1. Fluff, the cat at my bodega
Wait, you’re not rushing to adopt your very own subway rat? Come on, Rahnuma. But seriously – every New Yorker knows that bodega cats are built differently from regular cats. Any animal who interacts with all walks of life on a daily basis probably has more pearls of wisdom than we do, so cheers to Fluff. Cheers to all the bodega cats, for that matter. You’re absolutely crushing it.
2. Rare subway bonding moments
Speaking of subway rats… having a sense of humor like our friend Kelly allows us to embrace a city where the company of vermin is totally normal. While the not-so-nice aspects of living in NYC can be frustrating at times, moments like these do remind us that we’re all in it together. Which is ultimately a majorly toast-worthy, ‘just NYC’ thing if you ask us.
3. Inspiring adventures
It’s difficult to transition from New York to any other city because it’s so non-stop and has surprises at every turn. Even a simple trip to the bodega around the corner can feel like an adventure depending on the day, which is a phenomenon you’d only understand from living in NYC.
4. New Yorkers’ loyalty
Jonah raises an excellent point – New Yorkers are steadfastly loyal despite living amongst endless options. That’s because it’s important to maintain some level of familiarity in an otherwise anonymous city. From that one coffee place you visit every Sunday morning to that little pizza place you can’t pry yourself away from no matter how hard you try, there’s a great deal of comfort that comes from finding your ‘thing’ and sticking with it.
5. Late night yellow cabs
Enough said, Tina! Cheers to anyone who regularly drives through the streets of NYC. You humans are braver than most, and also know how to use a car horn like nobody’s business.
6. Seeing the skyline
After coming face to face with the less glamorous ‘just NYC things’, we’ll definitely raise a toast with Michelle to that dreamy, iconic horizon we’re so lucky to call our home! It’s easy to forget how stunning the NYC skyline is when you’re in the thick of it, so a periodic reminder that we live in one of the world’s most beautiful cities can do wonders on one’s sanity.
Assuming you feel even more ‘New York’ after reading those toasts, now it’s time to head over to ToastToNYC.com and submit your own ‘just NYC things’!
