Adding to all of the amazing light displays that will soon light up the city for the holidays, Brookfield Place will have their own colorful lantern feature created by design studio the LAB at Rockwell Group that is inspired by the season’s traditions of sharing, giving, and community. It will open for the season Friday, November 25.
The display is in their Winter Garden area, the soaring glass atrium with striking views of the Hudson River and the North Cove Marina. The suspended canopy made up of 640 twinkling glowing lanterns change in color and intensity, and there’s an interactive component where visitors can make a “wish” on different “wishing stations” that travel up to the lanterns and activate a magical light show. For every wish made, Brookfield Place will donate $1 (up to $25,000) to Outreach, which offers high quality, evidence-based behavioral health services for youth and adults in NYC and on Long Island struggling with substance and alcohol abuse.
They also have light shows every hour from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. set to popular holiday songs like “Winter Wonderland” by Michael Bublé, “Silver Bells” by Tony Bennett, “Carol of the Bells” by The Bird and The Bee, and “Let it Snow” by Pentatonix.
Also returning again is an interactive element called “Maestro,” which lets guests conduct their own symphony! Using “skeletal tracking technology,” you can design your own light show that is played in time with holiday music.
This full schedule is as follows:
- November 25 – December 1: Wishing, Maestro and Light Shows
- December 2 – 4: No wishing, Maestro, or light shows due to The Nutcracker performances
- December 5 – January 1: Wishing, Maestro, and Light Shows
- January 2 – 6: Luminaries canopy is in ambient mode. No wishing, Maestro, or light shows
New this year to the Winter Garden is Après Hours, a ticketed event which will transform the Garden into the ultimate holiday cocktail party underneath the Luminaries on December 6th, 13th, and 20th from 5p.m. – 8p.m. Here, guests can sip on tasty holiday cocktails such as mulled wine and spiked hot chocolate and enjoy light bites and giveaways throughout the evening. Proceeds will benefit Outreach. Learn more here.
Brookfield place is located in Battery Park City at 230 Vesey St. The luminaries will take over the Winter Garden from Friday, November 25 through Friday, January 6.
