If your TBR pile harbors stories of mythical worlds, steamy romances, and supernatural elements, now might be the time to invest in a bigger bookshelf.
Love & Legends Books, NYC’s first store dedicated to the romantasy genre, opens this weekend and encourages readers to lose themselves in an alternate universe or two. (You know you’ve been meaning to catch up on the ACOTAR series…) With over 4,000 titles to choose from, bookworms certainly won’t have any trouble finding a story that speaks to them.
And that’s what so wonderful about being part of the NYC literary scene. Readers are everywhere, interests are vast, yet specialized indie bookstores manage to bring likeminded communities together.
Just this fall, The Twisted Spine horror bookstore debuted in Williamsburg. Years prior, The Ripped Bodice set up shop in Park Slope. And, many moons before that, The Mysterious Bookshop took whodunits into its own hands — and that’s just to name a few specialized shops.
All those who love fantasy, romance, science fiction and speculative fiction are going to be thrilled with husband and wife duo Savanna Sturkie and Jack Peeples‘ business. The two share a love for fantasy worlds, Lord of the Rings, and Dungeons and Dragons. They dreamed of one day operating a bookstore that focuses on their favorite sections — and now that day has arrived.
“We are so excited to open our doors to the public,” Sturkie tells Secret NYC. “It feels kind of surreal — building this thing that we care so much about and no one’s really seen it yet besides us. So we really can’t wait for people to come through and buy some books.”
But more than a place to pick up new reads is the promise of “a cozy haven of discovery – a place to explore, for community, for connection.”
“At Love & Legends, our main focus is your home for genre fiction,” Sturkie continues.
The selection of books will range from adult series to middle grade books and some picture books for the kiddos (a.k.a. budding fantasy fans).
The store will open this Saturday, November 22nd at 10am and includes a ribbon-cutting, author signings, giveaways, and more. We’ll see you there!
