Long Island’s legendary Oheka Castle is officially going up for auction on October 27.
The 127-room property filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year to delay foreclosure.
Now, it is hitting the auction block through Concierge Auctions and Adam Modlin of the Modlin Group. The iconic estate currently has no designated starting bid.
A piece of Gilded Age history

The mansion is absolutely massive. It features 111,000 square feet of interiors, a 72-foot-long ballroom, and nine reflecting pools.
The stunning 23-acre grounds were originally designed by the sons of Central Park designer Frederick Law Olmsted.
When the estate was first constructed in the 1910s, it cost approximately $11 million—the equivalent of $263 million today. Decades later, a massive $40 million restoration led by Gary Melius turned the historic building into a luxury hotel.
Curbed called the project “possibly the most expensive in U.S. history for a private building.”
What the auction block includes
Oheka Castle is famously known for its high-profile celebrity weddings. It has also served as a backdrop for cinematic classics like Citizen Kane and Taylor Swift’s famous ‘Blank Space’ music video.
If you are worried about upcoming reservations, you can rest easy. All events are still scheduled and remain completely unaffected by the bankruptcy filing.
The new buyer will be required to assume all booked events through March 31, 2028.
The auction lot also includes a 5.13-acre plot of land. The Town of Huntington has already approved this specific plot for the development of 95 luxury condos.
Why a private buyer might swoop in
Real estate holding entity Kahn Property Owner, LLC is selling the castle through a global marketing effort to maximize value for its creditors.
Prospective buyers will need to carefully separate the romance of the property from the harsh economics.
However, scarcity is a massive part of the estate’s appeal. The castle famously survived an attempt by Robert Moses to build a parkway directly through its grounds.
Over the decades, it has functioned as a military training compound, a boarding school, and a retirement home. It is even cited as a direct inspiration for F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
For a private buyer, this could be the ultimate ego purchase. Purchasing a mansion with this kind of prominence and scale is incredibly rare.
