The Met is going goth for its upcoming Long Films for Long Nights series, so settle in for something spooky.
You can kick off the Halloween season at NYC’s most iconic museum while watching The Curse of the Cat People — a selection we’re willing to bet didn’t make it onto your horror film roster this year.
If you’re craving something creepy, this Friday-night happening offers a vintage twist and a unique way to ring in October in all of its eeriness. We’ll tell you how to snag a spot.
This month’s Long Films for Long Nights selection
The 1942 black-and-white film is the work of OG spooky kid, Val Lewton, and it’s said to be a reflection of his childhood. Given that it’s a smorgasbord of horror tropes — a haunted house, a ghost, the Legends of Sleepy Hollow, shapeshifters, and beyond — we’re willing to bet there’s something for all Halloween enthusiasts here.
If you’re considering Date Night at the Met — a free evening gathering with drinks, a DJ, and some of the world’s most notable artwork — you’re in luck. The screening and discussion of The Curse of the Cat People will coincide with the free weekly event, and the Museum will be operating on a pay-what-you-wish system at this time for New York residents (and New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut students with a valid i.d.)
Although the event is free, registration is strongly recommended, as the event is operating on a first-come, first-serve basis and prioritizing those who have saved a spot.
So, will you dive into Val Lewton’s creepy classic? We’re already planning our evening out.
Be sure to explore movies in theaters once the screening comes to a close this week. You could always use another scary story.
