Though MetroCards are on their way out the door–they’ll officially be phased out this year and replaced by OMNY–the MTA never misses an opportunity to release limited-edition MetroCards for fun happenings! And these ones are ‘Law & Order: SVU’ inspired.
To commemorate the 25th season of the New York-based show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” MetroCard vending machines at certain Manhattan subway stations will be loaded with limited-edition cards featuring a photo of Emmy Award-winning actress Mariska Hargitay in character as Captain Olivia Benson, the longest-running Primetime drama character in television history.
The limited-edition ‘Law & Order: SVU’ MetroCards will be available for purchase beginning at 12am on Friday, April 5th on a first come, first served basis.
50,000 cards will be solely available at certain vending machines at the following Manhattan locations:
- 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr (B, D, F, M)
- Times Sq-42 St (N, Q, R, W, S, 1, 2, 3, 7)
- Grand Central-42 St (S, 4, 5, 6, 7)
- 34 St-Penn Station (A, C, E)
- 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal (A, C, E)
Previously, the MTA had also released limited-edition MetroCards to celebrate rock band KISS’ final shows at MSG, to commemorate hip hop’s 50th anniversary, to celebrate rap legend The Notorious B.I.G.’s birthday, and to honor superstar Dolly Parton’s new album.
