Though MetroCards are on their way out the door–they’ll officially be phased out by 2024 and replaced by OMNY–the MTA is taking the opportunity to release some more limited-edition MetroCards before they’re gone for good.
Ahead of New York City rock band KISS’ final shows at Madison Square Garden, happening on Friday, December 1st and Saturday, December 2nd, MetroCard vending machines at two Manhattan subway stations will be loaded with limited-edition cards with a photo of the band on the reverse side.
The limited-edition KISS MetroCards will be available for purchase beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, November 27th on a first come, first served basis.
50,000 cards will be solely available at certain vending machines at the following Manhattan locations:
- 34 St-Penn Station – A, C, E
- 34 St-Penn Station – 1, 2, 3
- 34 St-Herald Sq – B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, W
Previously, the MTA had also released limited-edition MetroCards to commemorate hip hop’s 50th anniversary, to celebrate rap legend The Notorious B.I.G.’s birthday, and to honor superstar Dolly Parton’s new album.
