If you ask a New Yorker or search for the best chocolate chip cookies in NYC, Levain is always at the top of the list.
The bakery was started in 1995 by Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald after they made the perfect chocolate chip cookie to fuel their marathon training. 25 years later, it has been hugely popular in NYC and especially for visiting tourists.
One thing about their cookies though, is that they only offer four flavors: dark chocolate chocolate chip, dark chocolate peanut butter chip, oatmeal raisin, and chocolate chip walnut. For those of us who like a classic chocolate chip cookie without the nuts, it was always a bit of a buzzkill that wasn’t an option. The dark chocolate chocolate chip is just a little too much chocolate sometimes.
Well, finally the day is here! Levain Bakery’s very new location in NoHo is featuring the “Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie,” although they won’t reveal what those two chips are.
On Instagram they shared, “Since opening 25 years ago, our number one request has been a chocolate chip cookie without walnuts. So, our founders Pam and Connie spent months coming up with the recipe for Two Chip: a deliciously decadent cookie with a mix of two kinds of chocolate.”
This is also the first time they have added a new flavor in since they first opened!
The plain chocolate chip flavor should be added to their other locations in the coming weeks (on the Upper West Side and in Harlem)…but for now we’re happy it’s at least somewhere.
