Alright, we’ll admit it, we can’t help watching the LGA fountain either! I mean how could you not marvel at the NYC skyline made out of water?! It’s just like one of those Disneyland water shows! But there’s no doubt LGA has come a long way from what it was only a few years ago. And to honor its mega transformation, Forbes Travel Guide has just presented LGA with its inaugural best airport in the United States award.

“From the very start, our mission at LaGuardia Airport was to transform what was once the worst airport in the nation into an airport that would rival the best in the world,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Accepting this award from Forbes Travel Guide is further proof that with our private partners, Delta Air Lines and LaGuardia Gateway Partners, we have created a new LaGuardia Airport that is no longer a national laughingstock, but something our entire region and country can be proud of.”
The Verified Air Travel Awards surveys 5,000 hospitality and travel experts, in addition to the guide’s most frequent fliers, to determine the best of the best across 22 categories within the airline and aviation industry.

LGA’s incredible transformation was all made possible from the airport’s $8 billion investment. This award now joins the collection of accolades LGA has received following the transformation, including the best North American airport in its size class for 2024, Skytrax 5-star rating for LaGuardia’s Terminal B, and Rick Hansen Accessibility Certification gold rating for LaGuardia’s Terminal B to name a few.
The $8 billion investment led to the opening of the award-winning Terminal B and Delta’s new Terminal C.

“Aviation is the backbone of Queens, driving economic growth, job creation, and global connectivity for our borough and the entire region,” said Tom Grech, President and CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. “The transformation of LaGuardia Airport into the nation’s best is a testament to the Port Authority’s vision and investment in world-class infrastructure. This recognition from Forbes Travel Guide not only highlights LaGuardia’s remarkable evolution but also reinforces the critical role that our airports play in supporting businesses, tourism, and economic opportunity.”
If you have an upcoming flight departing from the best airport in the country, be sure you’re identification is in compliance with the new REAL ID requirements that will be enforced beginning May 7, 2025.
