NYC’s very own conveyor belt sushi bar is heading to Queens! Just imagine the scene from Drake & Josh but much less stressful and no sushi sticking to the ceiling.
Called Kura Sushi, the restaurant chain already has 44 locations across the nation, but this will be NYC’s very first. According to developers F&T Group and SCG America, the restaurant secured a 10-year lease inside Flushing’s gigantic mall complex, Tangram.
The spot will span 3,040-square-feet inside the multi-use development, joining other exciting spots like a futuristic, cyber-punk food hall and hoi polloi.
Payment is per plate. As different dishes circulate, customers can grab items directly off of the the conveyer belt. Each plate is specially priced and will be totaled up at the end of the meal. In addition to sushi, udon, ramen, other side dishes and desserts will also be available for purchase.
Hitomi Vinciguerra, Kura Sushi’s director of marketing, shared in a statement that Flushing is the perfect neighborhood for the new location due to it’s “rich culinary history.”
Kura Sushi was originally founded in Japan in 1977. To this day, the restaurant values Japanese traditions and virtues that support the use of high quality ingredients to create exceptional, fresh meals absent of artificial flavors, preservatives and colorings.
The company opened their first US location in 2008 to bring the unique but affordable dining experience to the States.
According to the Kura Sushi website, another NYC location will also open up on Long Island at Carle Place.
