Though you typically go to JFK Airport to leave NYC, why not make a little trip out of it before the real vacation starts?
JFK’s on-site TWA Hotel was just awarded the title of the Best Airport Hotel in North America by international air transport rating organization, Skytrax, at the 2024 Passenger Terminal Expo in Frankfurt, Germany. And with it’s rooftop infinity pool, airplane-turned-cocktail lounge, and Twister Room, the accolade doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
This year’s World Travel Awards analyzed 550 airports worldwide. Customers of over 100 nationalities determined the hotel winners across the span of a seven-month survey. They took into consideration service, accessibility, cleanliness, quality of sleep, fitness facility, along with food and drink, and JFK’s TWA Hotel came out on top!
This isn’t the first award JFK’s TWA Hotel has received. It was previously awarded the United States’ Leading Airport Hotel and New York’s Leading Airport Hotel for the last four years.
The unique venue was actually the former TWA Flight Center. It has since been transformed into a 512-room oasis that will transport you to a different decade. It’s most notable amenity is the rooftop infinity pool that overlooks the tarmac. And did we mention it stays at a heated 95+ degrees so it’s open to guests year-round?
But if you work up a thirst after swimming, guests are privy to one of the coolest cocktail lounges in the city: The 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane.
This historic airplane-turned-bar will serve up your favorite drink, while you sit parked on the tarmac. Plus, it offers vintage games and the perfect backdrop for Insta pics!
After getting a buzz going, you can disembark and enjoy everything from black truffle pizza to crispy salmon sushi at Paris Café by Jean-Georges. Or, you can continue boozing at The Sunken Lounge, complete with a custom Solari board.
Still not impressed? TWA Hotel has a wall-to-wall Twister Room! The 1960s game is sure to get your blood pumping, but there’s even a 10,000-square-foot fitness room if you’re really looking to break a sweat!
For those who really want to transport into the 60s, you can explore the 60s-inspired Sweet’N Glow Salon—another unbeatable photo-op! To discover even more features of TWA Hotel, check out their website.
“The TWA Hotel represents both a tangible connection to JFK’s storied past and an integral part of the airport’s world-class future,” says Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “The hotel’s distinctive food and drink offerings, remarkable runway views and iconic architecture all add up to an unforgettable stay just steps from our airport terminals. We’re gratified to see Skytrax recognize it for the extraordinary place that it is.”
