Lights up on Washington Heights—twice.
The lively vibes of Washington Heights are making their way to Midtown this fall. New York City Center has officially announced that the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights will kick off its 2026–2027 season as the Annual Gala Presentation, via a post made by the theater on Instagram.
This limited two-week engagement is set to run from October 28th through November 8th, 2026, beginning with a high-profile gala benefit performance on opening night.
For fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s breakout hit, the revival marks a homecoming for a story that is, at its heart, a love letter to the resilience and rhythm of New York City.
Before Hamilton became a global phenomenon, In the Heights had already established Lin-Manuel Miranda as one of the most innovative voices in American musical theater.
Blending hip-hop, salsa, merengue, and traditional musical theater storytelling, In the Heights arrived on Broadway in 2008 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and quickly became a sensation. With music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, the show won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2009. Its impact extended beyond the stage with a 2021 film adaptation directed by Jon M. Chu, starring Anthony Ramos.
🎭 What to Watch For Next
With In the Heights set to launch the upcoming season at New York City Center, fans are already looking ahead to what comes next. Still to be announced: casting for beloved roles like Usnavi, Nina Rosario, and Abuela Claudia, the full 2026–2027 season lineup, and when tickets will go on sale—including member pre-sales and the public on-sale for the gala run.
It’s been almost 20 years since Usnavi first stepped off the stage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and the show’s heartbeat—a story about finding where you belong and who carries your legacy—feels more resonant than ever.
