The subway is getting a well overdue makeover! Governor Cuomo and the MTA have revealed new designs for new open-ended subway cars with wider doors and an more open layout, and a plan to renovate 31 stations with charging stations and art installations.
The subway, built in the early 20th century, was designed for far fewer people than currently use the system. The new design is intended to ease the ever increasing problem of crowding in the subway.
750 of the 1,025 subway cars the MTA plans to buy will be open-ended allowing commuters to walk and spread the full length of the train. As if that weren’t enough, the cars will be equipped with Wi-Fi and USB charging ports to keep you entertained on long journeys.
