Saturday saw the fifth annual NYC Bodypainting Day, where 60 nude models and 50 artists from around the city came together to illustrate their freedom of expression. Here are some amazing images from this year’s event.
Washington Square Park has a constant ebb and flow of artists—whether it be street musicians or painters. On Saturday all that creativity exploded into a collage of color and energy where the human form became the canvas. Conceived by body painting artist Andy Golub in collaboration with Human Arts Connection, this colorful spectacle is part of Golub’s decade-long fight for freedom of expression.
Since 2011, Golub has been confronted by NYPD for his nude body painting, but in New York City this is actually completely legal. Last year he told the Huffington Post that: “People are preoccupied with the sexuality of the body; I’m trying to move the conversation beyond that.”
