New Yorkers, get ready! As of next month you won’t have to make your way to Brooklyn to shop at IKEA since there will be a second location opening within Manhattan.
Come Monday, April 15, the Swedish company will open the doors to their very first Manhattan store at 999 Third Avenue on the Upper East Side. Dubbed the “IKEA Planning Studio,” this new space will be the first to implement the studio concept in the United States. What does this mean? Well, according to a press release, it means the store is being “co-created with New Yorkers who provided input to IKEA throughout the planning process.” In regards to this being the first city center store for the brand, Lars Petersson, Country Manager of IKEA Retail U.S. says:
“We recognize that we are in a rapidly changing retail environment, and to be fit for long-term growth, IKEA is transforming in a way that lets us meet our customers where they are. New York City is the natural choice to open the first city center store – the most vibrant, dynamic city in the US, and the epicenter of retail, business, and culture.”
This particular IKEA location will have a primary focus of providing smart solutions for small spaces (something just about every New Yorker can relate to). Although anyone can already order IKEA products online and have it delivered to their home, wouldn’t it be nice to see it in person before purchasing? The Planning Studio will allow customers to purchase the products they like and get it delivered to their home. It’ll be open daily from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. offering a by-appointment, personalized service where an IKEA expert will be available to help help you design your city space. While walk-ins are welcome, IKEA is launching a booking tool for customers to be able to book appointments online to best take advantage of the Planning Studio’s personalized services.
Leontyne Green Sykes, Chief Operating Officer of IKEA Retail U.S. said: “We hope the Planning Studio will serve as a convenient destination for design expertise and stylish, multi-functional home furnishing solutions.”
This new store is part of the company’s plan to create 30 new stores in city centers over the course of the next three years. There are also plans for the Brooklyn outpost to be remodeled.
