If jumping out of a plane at 14,000 feet seems a tad too extreme, iFly Queens will give you the same rush in a much safer environment.
The 25-year-old indoor skydiving company is finally setting up shop in NYC with a Long Island City location opening this July. Name something cooler on your summer bucket list — we’ll wait.
All about iFly Queens
So what exactly is indoor skydiving? Attendees who are interested in flying won’t take a plunge — instead a wind tunnel will send them soaring and give them the sensation of flying. (No planes required!)
Just how extreme is it? It’s entirely up to you. iFLY encourages those ages 3 to 103 to give it a try, and your comfort level and abilities are taken into consideration when you’re entering the tunnel.
But as you might’ve imagined, anything with the word “skydiving” in it requires a little extra TLC. Certified instructors will dish out the necessary rules and regulations to all attendees looking to fly. Additionally, a pro will be in the tunnel helping you adjust to the experience.
While it’s definitely easy to go out for a run or hit the gym, this is certainly a more extreme way to get your fitness on, right? Packages start at $79 per flyer, and options are available for large groups and birthday parties, if you are looking for a unique way to start your next trip around the sun.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, July 18th while a family community day will follow on the 19th at 11am. In addition to watching demonstrations, there will be fun activities like STEM projects, fun prizes, balloon twisting, a face painter, and an ice cream bar. (Fair warning: you might want to fly before snagging a scoop!)
