Last night’s storm that hit the NYC area brought with it torrential downpours and lots of flooding.
Major roadways became difficult, if not impossible, to drive through to the point where even the Long Island Expressway in Queens was blocked due to intense flooding. The flood took place by Francis Lewis Boulevard and shut down all the LIE lanes from 8 p.m. until about 9 p.m. at night. However, while this was taking place, one woman took matters into her own hands to try to expedite the situation.
In a video posted to Twitter, Brooklyn resident Daphne Youree was captured clearing the clogged sewer grates to allow for the flooded water to begin draining.
Guess what. I cleared it ! pic.twitter.com/DpHagvg5c9

This true New York City hero can be seen trekking through the flooded roadway and using only a traffic cone to unclog the drain grates.
While Youree was able to clear the flooding in Queens, there were plenty of other incidences across the five boroughs of not only terrible flooding, but power outages as well…between this and the heat wave, NYC is having a rough week.
