The Shed Performing Arts Center, part of the ambitious Hudson Yards project, has released its opening date for April 5, 2019.
The Hudson Yards development on the far West Side of Manhattan is beginning to take shape. By March of this year, many of the public amenities of the megaproject including a public park, a shopping center and the highly anticipated structural marvel, Vessel, will be opening.
Coming in at 200,000-square-feet and six stories, the new cultural center will be home to performance art as well as fine art installations. The mission of The Shed is to “commission, produce, and present the full spectrum of performing arts, visual arts, and pop culture.”
Tickets for the inaugural program, Soundtrack of America, go on sale February 6. The program will “celebrate the impact of African American music on contemporary culture.” Over five nights, artists from genres ranging from blues, jazz, and gospel, to R&B, rock and roll, house, and hip hop will be performing.
We’re excited to see what other performances The Shed will bring to New York for the coming year! For more information about programming at the center, you can check out the official Shed website.
