Many felt that summer ended with the Labor Day weekend, but officially it doesn’t end until September 24—and we’ll take the extra time.
With the last week of summer upon us it’s time to squeeze in all those activities you thought you’d get to this year but never did. The ones you kept putting off until “next weekend,” which seems to have never arrived. Well, this is the weekend! (Or next, if you simply can’t help procrastinating.)
If you’ve done everything and aren’t sure how to make the most of this lovely final week of summer, here’s a list of some last minute activities you need to know about.
Unicorn Carnival
When: Sunday Sept. 17
Where: Coney Art Walls
Ladies, get your glitter on at Unicorn Carnival. A perfect end to NYFW, the one-day festival will include music, art, fashion, and beauty. Enjoy a glamorous mani at the nail station or get your hair done at the braid bar. You’ll be looking flawless for those selfies. More info.
“The Final Sail” End of Summer Sunset Yacht Cruise
When: Sunday, Sept. 17
Where: New York Skyport Marina
The name of this event explains it all. Take advantage of your last chance to go on summer yacht cruise this year. With a view of the Statue of Liberty and NYC skyline, enjoy complimentary appetizers, play games, and dance to live DJs as you cruise away from the island one last time. More info.
Bronx Food & Wine Festival
When: Saturday Sept. 16
Where: 1125 Grand Concourse
Head out to the Bronx this evening to help fight hunger and help NYC food banks! Listen to Hip Hip legends Melle Mell and Grandmaster Caz as you sample food and drink from local restaurants, bakeries, wineries, distilleries, and breweries. More info.
Feast of San Gennaro
When: Now through Sunday Sept. 24
Where: Grand and Mott Streets
The Feast of San Gennaro has already begun, and will run through Sept. 24. All week long feel free to stuff your face with cannolis (or any other Little Italy favorites) and make sure to watch the annual meatball eating contest on the 23rd.
Go Kayaking
When: Weekend through Oct. 9
Where: Pier 26
Kayak across the Hudson for free while it’s still nice enough out. Hit the water on the weekend and soak in all the sunshine you can from Pier 26, Pier 84, or Pier 96.
Go Zip Lining
When: Weekends
Where: Bronx Zoo
Be adventurous and zip down the 400-foot-long zipline at the Bronx Zoo. Treetop Adventure gives you the opportunity to see the zoo from a bird’s eye view as you fly above the trees. On a hot day that natural breeze will definitely feel nice.
The Meadows
When: Now through Sunday, Sept. 17
Where: Citi Field
Does this music festival really need to be explained? You can still buy a last minute day-ticket for today or tomorrow! Jay-Z may have played Friday night but you still have a chance to hear Future, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Has, Bassnectar, Weezer, M.I.A., an plenty more amazing artists.
