After five years of delivering more than 50 diverse vendors straight to the palms of Harlem residents month after month, NYC’s most popular and Manhattan’s largest food festival, Uptown Night Market, will sadly permanently close down after this season.
MASC Hospitality, NYC’s leader in producing and promoting larger-scale foodie festivals and the ones behind many of NYC’s beloved night markets, made the announcement, stating:
After five incredible years, it’s time to turn the page. Uptown Night Market is entering its final season — but we’re not ending. We’re celebrating. Starting this July, we’re going back to where it all began: under the bridge at 12th Ave & 133rd Street. One Thursday a month. Four unforgettable nights. July through October. This is our love letter to Harlem.
Uptown Night Market began as a way to amplify the vibrancy of Harlem’s community, culture, and food, as well as support its small businesses. Operated by a small, diverse, majority female-lead team, the monthly market would consistently draw more than 15,000 guests eager to get a taste of the best offerings from Harlem’s rich African-American, African, Caribbean, Hispanic, and European culture.
Market vendors not only represented over 20 countries, but the market was about more than just food–visitors were also treated to diverse performances and various activities each night of the market, which took place on the second Thursday of each month. But before we get ahead of ourselves, there’s still time to enjoy the market!
While the final Uptown Night Market will be on Thursday, October 9th, visitors can also hop into the Harlem scene on Thursdays July 10th, August 14th, and September 11th. But MASC Hospitality wants New Yorkers to know that just because Uptown Night Market is closing its chapter, certainly doesn’t mean this is the end. They write:
Learn more. This isn’t the end. It’s the beginning of a new chapter. As we shift our focus to long-term projects like Foodessy, EXPDT Method, and the national expansion of Latin Food Fest, we’re closing this chapter the way it deserves — with love, joy, and all the flavor you know and love.
