Fun, affordable, family-friendly activities can be hard to come by in Manhattan. But at Happy Medium, you can find the perfect balance between all three at this unique art cafe.
Located in the Two Bridges neighborhood of Manhattan, on the second floor of 49 Market Street, Happy Medium is not your traditional cafe. A quaint space, with natural sunlight dowsing, it is full of wooden tables and low-level chairs.
Just like a cafe, you will receive a menu. But instead of coffee and pastries, there are art experiences listed (though drinks and snacks are available to purchase at their bar).
Ranging from $15-24, customers can pick from a variety of mediums, including charcoal, pastel, clay, watercolor, and even collage-making! The experiences are self-guided, so it is entirely up to you what your finished piece looks like! If you’re feeling lost though, there are fresh flowers, art books and objects strategically placed around to help you find inspiration.
If you already have art supplies but simply need a space to work, Happy Medium also sells passes to allow you 2 hours of studio access for your creative ambitions.
Happy Medium Art Cafe is open on weekends only, on Friday and Saturday from 12-11pm, and Sundays from 12-9pm.
For those who seek night-time adventures, from 9-11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, the cafe hosts an “Art Noir,” a special late-night seating edition.
For a laid-back date night, a daytime friendly affair, or even just a solo activity, an art cafe like Happy Medium will make for the perfect experience, no matter your skill level. If you’re looking for an intimate birthday party or celebratory evening, they even host for private events!
The cafe also throws beginner art classes available to anyone wanting to learn a new skill or perfect their craft.
In order to make a reservation, you can DM the cafe on Instagram. Please keep in mind that Happy Medium is a team of two people, so allot some patience when awaiting for a highly-sought after reservation.
