The reunion we desperately needed, IMHO.
If you’re a fan of Hamilton, and of John Krasinski’s recent foray into good news reporting, then boy do we have the crossover episode for you! On yesterday’s episode of Some Good News, Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt interviewed nine-year-old Aubrey, who was scheduled to see Hamilton in Jacksonville, Florida, until coronavirus rather rudely got in the way. After promising to fly her to New York to see the Broadway show, their chat was interrupted by a rather special guest, and… well, things got pretty heartwarming from there. (Jump to around 8:27 for the Hamilton segment!)
First, Lin-Manuel Miranda – whom Blunt and Krasinski have just described as “the backup dancer” for Mary Poppins Returns, in which he co-starred with Blunt – jumps onto the call with an awestruck Aubrey for a quick chat. Miranda, promising to outdo Blunt and Krasinski, then invites the entire original Broadway cast onto the call for a rendition of ‘Alexander Hamilton’, the musical’s opening song. It’s pretty thrilling stuff, whether you’re a fan of the musical (guilty!) or not, and clearly an absolute delight for Aubrey. Fingers crossed it’s just as good when she sees it in New York!
