Missing the freedom of baring it all on your European summer vacation? Don’t fret, you can burn those buns just a ferry ride away from the city at Gunnison Beach in Middleton, New Jersey.
According to the National Park Service, Gunnison Beach is a clothing optional beach. In fact, it’s the only legal nude beach in the state and the largest nude beach on the East Coast.
From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, the beach has lifeguards on duty from 10am – 6pm. Though nakedness is permitted, glass containers, fishing, kite flying, scuba diving and snorkeling are a no-go.
City-goers looking to make the quick day trip can hop on the Seastreak ferry that departs from East 35th Street and Pier 11/Wall Street and cruises to Sandy Hook Beach. There’s even complimentary shuttle service when you arrive at the Sandy Hook ferry landing that will take passengers to North Beach, Beach E, Beach D and Gunnison Beach.
Of course, if you’re not interested in going nude, NYC still has plenty of wonderful beaches, clothing required, to relax at this summer. You can find our favorite NYC beaches here.
