After a 14 year hiatus out West, the recording industry’s most prestigious award show, the Grammys, are coming back home to NYC! Here’s everything you need to know!
OK Kanye, sit back down. So, the phrase “Coming home” is only half true. The First Grammy awards ceremony, on May 4, 1959, was held simultaneously in Los Angeles (Beverly hills) and New York City, so as much as they are coming back home, they are also leaving it. But after a 14-year break, it’s about time the star-studded awards ceremony returned to the city that never sleeps.
The Recording Academy announced on Tuesday that the 2018 Grammys will take place at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018. The venue last hosted the awards in 2003 before moving to what seemed to be its new permanent home at the Staples Center in LA. The Grammy Museum was even constructed across the street from Staples Center to preserve the history of the Grammy Awards. It’s unclear why we got the ceremony back, but for those of you who are fans of star spotting on the streets of NYC, it’s certainly good news.
Spike Lee even directed a short video entitled “NY Stories” to coincide with The Recording Academy’s announcement.
The Grammys will air live on CBS and nominees for the 60th annual Grammy Awards will be announced later this year.
