This year, the Public Art Fund is incorporating food into their Brooklyn Bridge Park attraction with a Hot Dog Bus.
Austrian sculptor Erwin Wurm transformed a vintage yellow Volkswagen Microbus into an overstuffed, bloated food truck that will serve up free hot dogs starting this weekend, June 9. According to their event page, “the bus’ bloated form will encourage audiences to reconsider the relationship between capitalism and consumption in today’s culture, while the act of eating, according to Wurm, can be considered an additive sculptural process in its own right.”
The details go on to explain that by reimagining this Volkswagen into this surreal food truck “Wurm invites visitors to explore the transformation of form of an everyday object as well as the potential of human action to create sculpture.”
The truck will move to different locations throughout the park from June 9 and August 26. If you see this big yellow blob of a bus be sure to stop by and grab your free hot dog!
