In the wake of the Coronavirus crisis, Governor Cuomo has become the voice of reason New Yorkers—and seemingly all of America—are looking for.
Cuomo’s daily briefings on the crisis have quickly become the highlight of everyone’s day. He tells it like it is (using killer PowerPoint slides) and doesn’t sugar coat the truth, which many are finding comforting during a time where misinformation can in fact be much more dangerous. As the New York Times aptly puts it, “Andrew Cuomo is the control freak we need right now.”
His briefings are not only informative and articulate, but also empathetic and inspiring. He’s made dad jokes, touched on his own personal life with family, told New Yorkers the truth of how bad things are and how much worse the situation may get, offered realistic solutions, and given us the pep talk to help get us through each day knowing we’re all united in this effort. For this reason, people from around the world have tuned into Cuomo’s press briefings, becoming “the most important show on TV.” Here’s proof of how important they are to people, and the rollercoaster of emotions we feel when tuning in.
And as the governor himself put it: “let’s kick coronavirus’s ass!”

In these dark, troubled times,
every time I hear @NYGovCuomo speak , he is such a calming light
He just said
“Socially Distanced
Spiritually Connected “
What a beautiful sentiment #cuomobriefing @cher pic.twitter.com/ziKvfGmjlT— CarolinaCHERCREW (@jameskwaters1) March 23, 2020
Even for the Governor himself! 😂
11.
Anyone else notice that #Cuomo uses these briefings as a chance to work out family issues? He shades the siblings for trying to visit mom (w/their germy selves), his kids aren’t excited to be w/him for months (ingrates), etc. I’m here for it. I just want him to know he is seen.❤️

I know you’re all jealous @NYGovCuomo belongs to us. We’d really like to keep him here, but as you can see, we here in NYS will graciously share. He’s keeping a lot of us sane right now.#cuomobriefing

Its 11:08 and Cuomo is not fireside on Facebook live yet. New Yorkers should not panic, he is likely personally building a brick and mortar trauma center in Flushing, Queens. #CuomoBriefing

Speaking of fireside chats…
16.
#Cuomobriefing Why do I feel like Americans must have felt when listening to FDR’s #fireside chats? It’s just an updated version.
He’s worthy of his predecessor: FDR (NY Governor, 1928-1932) & U.S. President: 1932-1945.#CoronaVirusUpdates #historymajor pic.twitter.com/qCMQxs4V3V

The Silent Generation had FDR’s fireside chats. I imagine the closest modern equivalent is @NYGovCuomo’s daily pressers, where he’s become Gen X New Yorkers’ reasonable older brother. #cuomobriefing
