Pack your bags and leave the layovers behind because Rio de Janeiro is officially joining the list of nonstop getaways from JFK.
Brazilian carrier GOL Airlines just announced they are launching their first-ever long-haul route, and they’ve picked New York City as the very first destination to get the “Marvelous City” treatment.
Starting July 8, 2026, you’ll be able to board a flight at JFK and wake up in the heart of Brazil without having to sprint through an airport in Miami or Panama City first.
This is a massive milestone for GOL as they expand into intercontinental travel, making it the first time a Brazilian airline has offered a direct connection between these two iconic cities in years.
Plus, it will be the sol operator of this route come summer, as American Airline and Delta Airlines’ JFK-GIG route will make way for GOL.
The schedule is pretty much perfect for anyone trying to maximize their PTO.
Flights will head out from JFK at 11:00 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, landing in Rio at 9:55 a.m. the next morning.
When you’re ready to come home, the return flights leave Rio at 9:55 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, getting you back to New York by 6:55 a.m. the following day.
Initially, you’ll be flying on a leased Airbus A330-200. These planes come with GOL’s new “INSIGNIA” business class, which means lie-flat beds and a three-course menu for those looking to arrive fully rested. Later in the year, they’ll be swapping these out for their own fleet of brand-new Airbus A330-900neos.
If you want to get a head start on those Brazil vibes before July, you can always take a trip to NYC’s own “Little Brazil” in Midtown for a dose of authentic pão de queijo and some of the best steak in the city.
While Rio is the big news today, we’re always on the lookout for other ways to get you out of the city for less.
We recently tracked down some incredible flight deals for 2026 that include everything from tropical escapes to European gems. Just in case you’re feeling inspired there too!
