For as long as I can remember, I’ve absolutely loved Valentine’s Day.
The sweet, very pink midpoint of February just might be one of my favorite days of the year. I love spotting people carrying flowers on the subway during the morning commute, bouquets carefully tucked between winter coats. I love the unapologetic pinks and reds scattered throughout the city, brightening up an otherwise gray month.
There’s something undeniably joyful about New York leaning into romance—even (and especially) when that romance looks like self-love, friendship, or simply the many beautiful sites around us all throughout the boroughs.
My friends and I often spend Valentine’s Day together, and it tends to involve crafts, little gift exchanges, sharing stories, and reminding each other how deeply loved we are. It’s proven to me time and time again that one of the most important things about the holiday is the very many connections that exist all around us.
That’s why Galentine’s Day feels especially perfect in NYC. This city thrives on chosen family, late-night conversations, cozy corners, and big feelings. Whether you’re planning a full day of indulgence or just looking for an excuse to dress up and toast to your friendships, consider this your guide to celebrating love in all its forms—with your favorite girls, in the best city there is.
From someone who considered herself a bit of an expert, here’s your ultimate guide to Galentine’s day in NYC.
