If you were around in the 2010s, you’re probably familiar with Fyre Festival, the luxury music festival that never actually was. It’s supposedly coming back in 2025.
Billy McFarland announced this week that the follow up of 2017’s disastrous festival is coming to the Mexican Caribbean this summer in the form of Fyre Festival 2.
The rebranded festival is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2, 2025, on Isla Mujeres off the coast of Mexico.
While no musical lineups have been announced yet, the festival announced this week that they’re partnering with Mexican concert production company LostNights to handle the event’s logistics…a step of organization that didn’t happen during the first go-around.
Attendees can expect a boundary-pushing excursions by day and intimate beachside performances at night…from “artists across electronic, hip hop, pop, and rock” McFarland said on TODAY earlier this week.
Fyre Festival 2 ticket information
Believe it or not, tickets for Fyre Festival are on sale now, but they’ll cost a pretty penny.
Admission for the event ranges from $1,400 to $25,000, this all in addition to an extraordinary 8 person package with luxury villas, private airfare, and more for a whopping $1.1 million.
The original Fyre Festival fiasco
Since you may be wondering if this sounds a whole lot like the festival’s OG version which ended up in a pair of Netflix and Hulu documentaries, you’re not totally incorrect.
Back in 2017, tech entrepreneur Billy McFarland organized this extravagant destination music festival in the Bahamas that left hundreds of ticket holders stranded.
Promised luxurious villas, state-of-the-art dining, and a world-class music lineup turned out all to be faux…in lieu of disaster relief tents as shelter, cheese sandwiches as meals, and an empty music roster.
As a result McFarland went to jail for six years on counts of fraud. He now vows to turn around and asks for a second chance.
“I’m sure many people think I’m crazy for doing this again. But I feel I’d be crazy not to do it again,” McFarland said in an IG press release.
“After years of reflection and now thoughtful planning, the new team and I have amazing plans for FYRE 2. The adventure seekers who trust the vision and take the leap will help make history. Thank you to my partners for the second chance.”
